Saharsa: The Pulse Polio National Immunization Campaign has started in Saharsa district. The campaign was inaugurated at the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Department building of Saharsa Sadar Hospital, where District Magistrate Deepesh Kumar officially launched the drive by cutting the ribbon.
During the inauguration, DM Deepesh Kumar personally administered polio drops to children and appealed to parents to ensure that every child below five years receives the life-saving polio vaccine.
The campaign will continue from June 28 to July 2, 2026. According to the district administration, a target has been set to vaccinate 4,32,901 children aged up to five years across Saharsa district.
DM Deepesh Kumar said that India has not reported any polio case for the last 14 years, but due to the detection of a few cases in neighboring countries, the campaign is being conducted as a precautionary measure to maintain complete protection against polio.
To make the campaign successful, the health department has deployed 809 house-to-house teams, 96 transit teams and 16 mobile teams. A total of 274 supervisors and 92 sub-depot holders have also been assigned monitoring responsibilities.
Health workers including ANMs, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and volunteers will visit homes to provide polio drops to children. The administration has appealed to all parents to cooperate and make sure that every eligible child receives the polio dose.
