The action was taken by the Saharsa Sadar Police and District Intelligence Unit team based on information received by Superintendent of Police Vikram Sihag. Police said the gang was involved in promising candidates success in the examination by using unfair means in exchange for money.
According to police, the gang used to demand around Rs 6 lakh from candidates and allegedly collected their original educational certificates and signed blank cheques as security.
The investigation revealed that the gang had links in several districts, including Saharsa, Gaya and Bhagalpur. The alleged mastermind of the gang has been identified as Saroj Kumar from Madhubani.
Police also received information that was shared with Patna Police. During the investigation, a candidate from Baijnathpur Tiri area of Saharsa was allegedly caught in Patna while using a Bluetooth device to cheat during the examination.
Police said the candidate’s mobile phone contained evidence including admit cards of candidates and exchange of examination answers.
The arrested accused have been identified as Chandan Kumar, Chandan Kumar Yadav, Vivek Kumar, Kundan Kamal alias Shyam, Pramod Prajapati from Gaya, and Rahul Kumar from Gaya.
Police recovered 10 mobile phones, original educational certificates and signed blank cheques belonging to different candidates from the accused.
During questioning, police found that the gang allegedly collected candidates’ admit cards and shared them among members involved in arranging cheating through different methods.
Saharsa SP Vikram Sihag said the exam-setting gang has been uncovered and further investigation is underway. Police are also examining the role of other people allegedly connected with the network.
The case has been registered at Saharsa Sadar Police Station, and officials said more arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
